Buxton Wx: weather station
Buxton Wx is a comprehensive amateur weather station based in Buxton deployed in 2005 with records dating back to 2007.
It includes the standard observations (temperature, rainfall, wind, etc) but also features more advanced observations such as tracking Steavenson and Little Steavenson river levels, air quality, UV and soil moisture.
Buxton Lx: lightning detector
Buxton Lx is a detection node in the world-wide Blitzortung lightning detection array. This node was deployed in 2024.
It helps detect and, importantly, identify the location of lightning strikes not only in the Buxton neighbourhood but throughout Oceania (often more than 10,000km away). The strikes are displayed in realtime maps in the website.
Buxton Sx: seismograph station
Buxton Sx is a combined geophone seismometer and infrasound monitor.
This is a new project (Dec 2024) that hopefully can be deployed in the next six months or so. It results from numerous local enquiries about the small (about Mag 3) earthquakes that seem to have become more common recently.
